Throwback Thursday - "Wild" by Cheryl Strayed

Happy Throwback Thursday friends! It's been a crazy week for me, and apologize for the inconsistent posting! I'll be more on track next week, promise. This week I'm going to share with you one of my favorite books of all time - Wild by Cheryl Strayed. (Here are some other nonfiction books I'm lovin').

Strayed, Cheryl. 2012
General Information
Paperback: 315 pages
Genre: Nonfiction, Autobiography, Memoir
Publisher: Vintage Books
Series: No

What it's about
At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and she would do it alone.

Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.

Why I loved it

Let's get one thing clear, I HATED this book when I first started reading it. My mom read it and loved and had recommended it to me. I tried to read it and just couldn't get into it. Fast forward about 6 months, I had just started my last semester of college and I picked this book up again.. This time, I absolutely LOVED it! I loved how Cheryl found a way to get through the worst parts of her life. It was, and still is, a great reminder that no matter what life throws at you, you can get through it. If you've hit rock bottom, the only place left to go is up.

Why you should read it
If you're looking for a book that will inspire you to to the unthinkable, then this is the book for you. I understand this type of book isn't for everyone, but if you don't like it at first...put it down and try again a few months later.

My rating
5/5 - like I said, I LOVED this book! It's my favorite book, and I'm ready to read it again someday.

Have you read this book before? What did you think?
